conservative vs open

I watched this Tyra Show on the TV just now. The topic was teen pregnancy. And till now, I really don't understand how those girls can just tell the whole world what happened to them and what did they do. I guess I am staying in a more conservative society. And, I am glad for this.

Some of the girls were telling the audience at what age they got pregnant and what did they do, e.g. abortion or getting married, after they found out. There was this girl who was (I assumed this show is not new when it was aired just now) pregnant and didn't know how to tell her mom and she told her mom through a phone call and the whole conversation was filmed and shown to the public or indirectly, to the whole world.

I was shocked.

Personally, I disapproved that act. I mean, if you are pregnant, you should have told your mom personally and not spreading the news to the whole world first before telling her and some more phone call is not exactly the best way for effective communication especially for stuff like that. If I were her mom, I would be really mad and disappointed.

I always know American society and Asian society are different. In Asia, we are more conservative, but of course, people are becoming less and less of that. I think, if I would to study in America, I would have culture shock initially. I know all these kind of stuff happen, but I just never really witness them or experience them or have friends who are in these situations. To those teenagers, perhaps these are not new and not uncommon and they are okay with them, but to me, it's still not okay. I still couldn't accept the action of teenagers having sex before marriage. I just think that this is not the way it should be. Some people may have other opinions though.

Anyway, come to think of it, I am quite glad that I managed to catch that show. I wouldn't say I love the show but it actually opens up my mind a little bit more and made me realised how different east and west can be.

Just wondering, how do these teenagers actually feel when they found out that they are pregnant?
