no mistake allowed
certain sports allow no mistake during competition. actually not only sports, but whatever you do, obviously you want to minimize the mistakes performed. but we shall only focus on sports today k hahaha. i wasn't a sporty person at all. back home. it's like, you won't even think of any sports related stuff when you see me, hear my name, think of me. the only sports related stuff, besides PE, which was compulsory, that i joined back home was netball. ohh maybe i play the badminton as well. but that's only with my family. i picked up badminton from my dad anyway. so what i am trying to say right here is, i am not a sport person. slowly, i start to join sports, and come to think of it, they are those unconventional sports, since my jc days. i tried out for shooting in jc. it was supposed to be a fun shoot thingy only. me and my roommate then decided that it should be fun to go for the fun shoot at cdans. but on the day of the fun shoot, she suddenly couldn't make it! i still remember! well, i went there anyway and luckily there were a few familiar faces. so that day was a fast-track coaching day and we shot i think 10 pellets in total. we were then allowed to shoot for one to two more sessions within the week (i think so) and the trial came. 10 shots. and my 10 shots were really all over the place. two weeks or some time after, the result for the trial came out. they asked us to gather at some lt and they were going to announce who got in the school team there and then. and i remembered that day i had students' council interview as well! i was quite shocked that i actually got in the school team. because i thought due to the amount of people signed up for the trials, i didn't think there were any chances and besides, i started out for fun. well, i accepted and then began my shooting life. i must admit that sometimes it got boring. but i realised, it was the teammates around that kept you going on. and also, the feeling from achieving something, or when you got your personal best. these small little things are the ones that actually push you forward. so after jc, i knew that i wasn't gonna continue shooting because hmmm, i just knew it. there's no particular reason. but of course, i am still interested whenever people talk about shooting. oh yea i was in air rifle. hahaha. if you are asking why rifle and not pistol, i really have no idea either. it was my decision back then haha. now, let's talk about competition. joining competition was a new experience to me. i couldn't really remember my first competition. was it the nus or ntu? never mind haha. anyway the only competition that i remembered more clearly was the home team ns tournament. the reason is simply i got a medal from it! hahahahahahaha. it was the only competition that my jc's air rifle women team actually won medals from it. and i am really glad that i was part of the team! :D bronze medal ((: so after jc, i am like totally cut off any ties with sports. the closest thing was aerobic? -.- hahahah! entering uni was a new experience. i remembered i was walking down the cca exhibitions with my friends and we were just looking at the various booths. we passed by the shooting one, and i saw the huge suit that i used to wear for my trainings. then we passed by the archery booth. i was quite amazed with the bow displayed. hahahahaha. and i actually remembered which senior asked me to try the bow. i didn't try in the end i think. just signed up for the fun shoot. none of my friends were interested -.- so i was contemplating whether to go down for the fun shoot or not. i am glad that i did. the school team selection day coincided with the day i was having my first VM meeting! (why do i always have two CCAs stuff clash with one another???) so i went only after lunch time. and i didn't have any lunch that day. guess what happened. i almost fainted, as in really almost fainted, because suddenly the scene in front of me became really blur and i couldn't even see who was the person in front of me. i remembered calling a friend who stayed in hall 2 to actually buy some food for me. and there were seniors there asking me are you okay. it was so so embarassing. ://// the selection lasted for two days. the next day, i reached the place really early. was the first one to arrive. and there was a senior who knew i almost fainted the day before, asking me whether i had my breakfast. he said he didn't want to see me faint again that day. -.- how embarassing to be remembered as the girl who almost fainted -.- one of the seniors who trained me the day before actually told me that it is easier for girls to get in because there were really very few girls. and bla bla bla i got in and until now i am still in archery. competition. i only participated in one before. and the next one is in a week's time. hmmm. i was quite nervous for my first competition. maybe because it was the first. and now i don't feel anything for my second one. not that i am very prepared, it's more like i have the i-don't-really-care attitude :/// i know i shouldn't be feeling nonchalant. complicated stuff anyway. so after all these long long details about my sporting history, i shall go back to winter olympics. i was saying how no mistakes are allowed. sports like gymnastics, skating, those that are more towards the performance kind of sports, really do not allow the athlete to perform any mistakes. for example, skating. if you fall, just once, your points will fall too. rhythmic gymnastic. if you couldn't catch the ball, couldn't hold onto the bars, that's it. while watching the video clips, i realised how stress these athletes must be. the whole world has their eyes set upon them. wow. i guess that's all for this post. it's too long and i am too tired. |
